Women’s Golf Day is an annual and international celebration of golfing women and a way to introduce the sport to other women looking to play the grand ole game. On May 30 at Las Vegas National Golf Club, 127 women gathered and were coached and instructed by many of Southern Nevada’s top coaches and instructors. The event was organized by the Southern Nevada Golf Association and Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association. The event is now an annual tradition at Las Vegas National Golf Club.
“It’s just been a really great day for me,” said Sherry Mills, an attendee. “I’m a beginner and I started playing about eight months ago for business reasons. I had some clients that golfed, and I wanted to be able to golf with them, so I’ve kind of been winging it a little bit. I’ve been taking a couple of lessons, but the sessions today have been really informative. I didn’t know all of the rules completely and I didn’t know that much about chipping. I’ve been trying to do my own thing and now I feel like I’ve gotten better at that. Plus, to meet other women that enjoy golfing was a great benefit, as well.”
Coaches, instructors, and experts that were on hand to help the women included Tim Brand, Amy Bush-Herzer, Kerri Clark, Karyn Dunphy, Nicole Dutt-Roberts, Kenny Ebalo, Ronda Henderson, Liam Hunt, Daren Johnson, Karl Larcom, Todd Kruse, Mike Magnera, Sarah McGuire, Kyndall Newman, Shawn Rowe, CJ Schmid, Luka van der Merwe, Bobby Weaver, Brandon Wilkinson, John Woodside, Dr. Paul Woytus and six UNLV PGM students.
